9th European Meeting of People experiencing poverty
The 9th European
Meeting of People Experiencing Poverty was organised by the Spanish Presidency
of the European Union, with the support of the European Commission and of the
European Anti-Poverty Network. The event took place in the European Parliament
on 25th of June and in the European Commission on 26th of
June. This year's meeting was called "Starting point for a new deal". People
experiencing poverty called on the EU to focus on people rather then on
competitiveness. The following main priorities and conclusion were made:
-participation of
people experiencing poverty in decision-making processes at all stages
-responsibility and
accountability of decision makers
-guarantee of
fundamental rights linked to affordable, quality and safe housing, social
services, food, decent work and education for all
-protection of
families
