On the 11th of November 2009, EFSC organized an inauguration event of its new headquarters` office in Luxembourg, 15, Route d`Esch, L-1470 Luxembourg (tel. +352 27 44 51, fax: +352 27 44 51 70 info@efsc-eu.org) where it has moved it`s administrative seat on 01.09.2009 . Approximately 50 guests, including three Deputies from the Luxembourgian Parliament and many representatives from the European, national and local levels of the political and NGOs scene in Luxembourg, as well from research and many EFSC member organizations were present.
Reinhold Muller, EFSC Director welcomed everybody and expressed EFSC `s happiness and thanks given the participation of so many guests from both the Luxembourgian political scene and NGO sector and their readiness to help integrate EFSC into the `tissu associatif`in Luxembourg and their understanding of the need for a close cooperation between representatives of different sectors regarding the protection of vulnerable children. He highlighted the burning issue of growing numbers of street children in Europe and the enormous need for the cooperation on each level: political, governmental and between NGOs stressing the new opportunities to be used following the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty.
Mill Majerus, Member of the Luxembourgian Chambre des Deputés and President of the Committee for Family, Young People and Equal Opportunities, who gave the opening speech, showed his interest in the cooperation with EFSC as well as highlighted the importance of NGOs engagement and collaboration on political levels. He welcomed the move of an important European umbrella organization such as EFSC from Brussels to Luxembourg reaffirming the importance of child protection for the Luxembourgian Parliament.
Charel Schmit, President of the Association Nationale des Communautés Educatives, also welcomed EFSC as a new potential partner for cooperation in the field of child protection policy in Luxembourg with a particular impact and research in education and its application in practice.
EFSC Member Organizations representatives, Mihai-Florin Rosca, Romanian Foundation for Children, Community and Family, Romania; Mariana Pisarska, Alliance for Children and Youth, Bulgaria; and Brian Delord, Pupil-Parent Partnership, UK, presented to those present the core aspects of their cooperation with EFSC and the highly important added value of the European level for a successful advocacy work for marginalized children in their national and local contexts, ensuring EFSC of their ongoing support also at it's new headquarters' location in Luxembourg.
Anthony Simpson, EFSC Treasurer and former MEP as well as founder of the DAPHNE programme, presented the history of EFSC so far and explained the decision to move the administrative seat from Brussels to the other European metropolis Luxembourg both in terms of financial and networking needs. He underlined the most successful evolution since the reorganization of EFSC in 2004 under the leadership of Reinhold Müller, regarding its advocacy efficiency, the establishment of a European wide network of competent and solid member organizations and its financial stability. Wishing much success for the start in Luxembourg and the new period of EFSC`s life, he thanked the staff and the director for the great work done until now and expressed the personalities present for their support.
